What to Talk about on the First Date?

Copy of what to talk about first date.jpg

You have about two minutes until your date arrives to pick you up. You frantically pace around your bedroom, stepping over the pile of clothes that did not make the final “first-date outfit” cut. In your mind, you start creating unrealistic yet, possible scenarios that could happen tonight. If this happens, I should say/do this, you overthink. What will we talk about? What do they want to talk about?

This night has been staring back at you for weeks now, circled in red on your calendar. The first date.

You nearly jump out of your skin, at the sound of the doorbell. They’re here, your mind screams.

You open the door to their beautiful, smiling clean cut figure, nervousness spreads through your body, like a wildfire. It’s showtime.

So What Will you Talk About On the First Date?

Here’s a list of conversation starters, to avoid that horrible awkward silence.

-In the car/ waiting to the date night activities to begin-

  1. What did you do today?

  2. How was the drive over here?

  3. You look handsome/beautiful tonight. (Side note, if my date has complimented me in the first 20 minutes of the date, I would take this as a red flag.)

  4. What type of music are you in to?

  5. Have you ever been to (insert date night’s location here) before? What are you most excited for?

-During the Date-

  1. What do you do? How long have you been doing it?

  2. What’s on your bucket list?

  3. What do you like to do when you’re not working?

  4. Tell me about your family.

  5. Are you more of a T.V. person or movie-goer?

  6. Do you traveled anywhere lately?/Where are you headed to next?

  7. Are you a dog or cat person?

  8. Do you have any siblings?

  9. Are you a morning or night person?

  10. What are you most passionate about?

  11. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

  12. Do you like cooking?

-Afterwards-

To hint for a second date:

  1. Did you like this place?

  2. How is work looking for you this week?

  3. Do you have plans for this coming weekend?

  4. I’m really glad this date went so well, we should do this again.

If you never want to see him again:

  1. Nice meeting you, goodbye.

  2. Thank u, next.
